Oak Wilt Treatment & Prevention
Oak wilt is a deadly fungal disease that spreads rapidly among oak trees in Central Texas. If left untreated, it can spread and put all oaks nearby at risk. Tree Scouts provides specialized oak wilt diagnosis, targeted fungicide treatment, and prevention guidance to stop this disease and protect your trees.

How It Works
1. Diagnosis by Certified Arborist
Our ISA-certified arborist will inspect your oak for telltale oak wilt symptoms and confirm the diagnosis. We also assess how far the infection has spread to plan the most effective treatment approach.
2. Injection with Fungicide (Propiconazole)
We treat the affected tree (and at-risk neighbors) by injecting a systemic fungicide (propiconazole) directly into the trunk. This targeted trunk injection helps halt the oak wilt fungus inside the tree and protects surrounding healthy oaks from infection.
3. Monitoring & Pruning Best Practices
After treatment, our team will monitor the tree’s recovery and remain available for follow-up support. We also provide clear pruning ISA guidelines and sealing any oak wounds to prevent the disease from coming back or spreading further. Our crew's tools are always sanitized and cleaned as well.

Common Questions
How do I know if my oak tree has oak wilt?
Common signs include leaves turning brown or bronze (often with dark veins visible in live oak leaves) and rapid leaf drop from the upper canopy. If your oak is wilting and shedding leaves suddenly outside of the normal fall season, oak wilt could be the cause. It's still best to schedule a free consult with a Tree Scouts expert to assess the trees and provide you with a diagnosis.
When should I treat a tree with oak wilt?
Immediately. Oak wilt moves fast, so have an infected oak treated as soon as it’s confirmed. The earlier the fungicide injection is done, the better the chances of saving the tree and protecting nearby oaks.
Can oak wilt be cured or stopped?
There’s no absolute cure once oak wilt is well advanced. However, if caught early, a propiconazole injection can often stop the fungus and save the tree (or at least significantly slow the disease’s progress).
How can I prevent oak wilt from spreading?
Always paint any cut immediately to seal it. Sanitize pruning tools between trees and don’t transport or store infected oak firewood. In high-risk areas, consider preventive fungicide injections for healthy oaks. We do offer tree fertilization plans you can take advantage of.
