I get this question on almost every estimate call, and honestly, most of the pricing info online is useless for Georgetown homeowners. National averages don't account for our live oak-heavy landscapes, the limestone soil that makes access tricky, or the oak wilt protocols that add time to every oak job. So here's what tree trimming actually costs in Georgetown based on the work we do every week.
For most residential tree trimming jobs in Georgetown, you're looking at $350 to $1,500 per tree. Our minimum job is typically $375 to $575 but that varies based on each company. That's a wide range because a 15-foot crape myrtle and a 60-foot live oak are completely different jobs. Here's a more useful breakdown by what we actually see in Sun City, Berry Creek, Teravista, and other Georgetown neighborhoods.
Small trees (under 25 feet) — $250 to $500. Think crape myrtles, Texas redbuds, ornamental pears. Quick jobs, usually done from the ground or with a short ladder. Most of these take 30-60 minutes per tree.
Medium trees (25-50 feet) — $450 to $900. Cedar elms, younger live oaks, pecans. These require a climber or bucket truck. Typical Georgetown subdivision trees fall in this range.
Large trees (50-80+ feet) — $800 to $1,800. Mature live oaks, large pecans, heritage-sized trees. These are the ones hanging over your roof in Berry Creek or shading your entire backyard in Sun City. They take 2-4 hours with a full crew and rigging equipment.
Hazardous or complex trimming — $1,200 to $2,500+. Trees near power lines, over pools, against structures, or with significant deadwood. The added rigging and safety precautions drive the price up.
When I walk a Georgetown property, here's what I'm mentally calculating:
Species matters more than people think. A 40-foot cedar elm and a 40-foot live oak at the same height are very different jobs. Live oaks have dense, heavy canopies with thick lateral limbs. Cedar elms are lighter and more open. The oak takes twice as long to prune properly — and requires oak wilt prevention protocols that add 15-20 minutes per tree.
Access and obstacles. If I can park the chipper truck on your driveway and reach the canopy directly, that's straightforward. If your tree is behind a fence, between two houses, or overhanging a pool — that's rope-and-climb work, which is slower and more labor-intensive.
What needs to be done. Deadwood removal only? That's the cheapest option. Full structural pruning with crown thinning, weight reduction, and clearance cuts? That's the most involved. We follow ANSI A300 pruning standards on every job — no topping, no lion-tailing, no shortcuts that damage your tree long-term.
Number of trees. One tree by itself costs more per-tree than bundling 3-5 trees together. The mobilization cost is the same whether we're trimming one tree or five. If you've been putting off the whole yard, doing it all at once gets you a better rate.

A few things make Georgetown different from other Central Texas cities:
HOA requirements. Sun City, Berry Creek, and Teravista all have specific landscaping standards. Some HOAs require architectural committee approval before any tree work, which adds a step (though we handle that paperwork for you).
Protected tree species. Georgetown's Unified Development Code protects certain heritage and significant trees. If your tree is 19+ inches in diameter, there may be permit requirements.
Oak wilt risk. Georgetown has active oak wilt zones. Any oak pruning requires immediate wound sealing and tool sterilization. If your tree company doesn't do this, they're gambling with your trees.
Schedule in winter. November through February is the cheapest time for tree work in Georgetown. Ask about our Spring and Summer deals though - plus our price-BEAT guarantee.
Bundle your trees. Per-tree cost drops significantly when we're already on-site with multiple trees.
Don't wait for emergencies. Planned trimming is always cheaper than emergency storm cleanup.
Get a real estimate. Any company that quotes over the phone without seeing the tree is guessing. We provide free on-site estimates because every tree is different.
If someone quotes your large live oak at $200, something's wrong. Either they're going to top it (which causes irreversible damage), they're uninsured, or they'll leave you with a mess. Always confirm proof of insurance, ISA certification (verify at treesaregood.org), a written estimate, and local reviews.
Our pricing reflects what it actually costs to do the job right: certified arborists assessing every tree, trained climbers making proper cuts, oak wilt protocols on every oak, full cleanup, and a satisfaction guarantee. We only require 25% deposit, and you don't pay the balance until you're happy. That's our Scout's Honor Promise.
Tree Scouts provides free estimates for all Georgetown properties. We also serve Leander, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Austin, Lakeway, Hutto, and Pflugerville. Book your free estimate or call 512-265-0861.
