Xylem

Definition

Xylem is the woody tissue inside a tree that transports water and minerals from the roots up to the leaves. Damage to or blockage of the xylem disrupts the tree's water supply and can cause rapid decline.

In Central Texas

Oak wilt attacks the xylem of infected oak trees in Central Texas, blocking water transport and causing rapid canopy decline.
