Vascular System

Definition

The vascular system of a tree is the interconnected network of xylem (which transports water up) and phloem (which transports sugars down) tissues. Vascular wilts like oak wilt attack and block this transport system.

In Central Texas

Live oaks have heavily interconnected vascular systems via root grafts, which is why oak wilt can spread rapidly between adjacent live oaks in Central Texas.
