Topping

Definition

Topping is the indiscriminate cutting of tree branches to stubs or lateral branches too small to assume the terminal role. Topping is universally condemned by professional arborists because it causes decay, weak regrowth, and dramatically shortens tree lifespan.

In Central Texas

Topping is unfortunately common in Central Texas neighborhoods and is one of the most damaging tree care mistakes Tree Scouts arborists correct.
