Soil Compaction

Definition

Soil compaction occurs when soil particles are pressed together, reducing pore space for air and water and severely limiting root growth. Common causes include construction traffic, foot traffic, and heavy equipment on the root zone.

In Central Texas

Soil compaction is one of the most common preventable causes of tree decline in Central Texas neighborhoods, especially around new construction and high-traffic landscapes.
