Root Flare

Definition

The root flare is the area at the base of the trunk where the trunk widens and meets the structural roots. Buried root flares are a common landscape problem that leads to girdling roots, decay, and premature decline.

In Central Texas

Tree Scouts uses air spading where appropriate to expose and address root flare burial without damaging surrounding roots.
