Mulch

Definition

Mulch is a layer of organic material (typically wood chips or shredded bark) applied over a tree's root zone to retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, suppress weeds, and slowly add organic matter to the soil. Proper mulch depth is 2-4 inches, never against the trunk.

In Central Texas

Mulching to the proper depth and never against the trunk is one of the simplest tree health improvements Central Texas homeowners can make.
