Critical Root Zone (CRZ)

Definition

The critical root zone is the area extending outward from the trunk roughly to the dripline (the edge of the canopy) where the majority of a tree's absorbing roots are located. Protecting this zone from soil compaction, grade changes, and root cutting is essential to tree survival.

In Central Texas

Establishing and protecting the critical root zone is one of the most important tree health interventions Tree Scouts arborists advise on Central Texas construction and landscape projects.
